Unsolved Homicide of William Hall

William Hall On June 6, 1967,17-year-old William Hall and his girlfriend were parked on a deserted north Merritt Island road when they were approached by an unknown black male who robbed and beat Hall to death.

Unsolved Homicide of Brenda Riley

Brenda Riley Brenda Riley was a 13 year old, eighth grader from Merritt Island. In the late afternoon hours of May 24, 1971, Brenda told her father she was going to a nearby store to purchase a birthday gift for her sister. By 8:00 p.m. on that evening, Brenda had failed to return home, and the Brevard County Sheriff's Office was notified by her father. A search of the area was conducted, but Brenda was not located. Although Brenda was 13 years of age, she had learning disabilities relating to hearing problems, and was somewhat immature for her age.

On May 27, 1971, a lawn maintenance worker discovered the body of Brenda Riley in an overgrown field several blocks from her residence, off Catalina Isle Drive in Merritt Island. Brenda's body was identified through dental records the next day.

Investigation revealed that Brenda may have been befriended by a white male, approximately 18 to 20 years of age, at a nearby convenience store. This person has never been located or identified. The composite was completed in 1971 by witnesses who observed the subject walking with the victim in the area of the Sunoco Gas Station and U-Tote-M Convenience Store.

Unsolved Homicide of William Agee

William Agee On January 2, 1973, a shallow grave containing the recently interred remains of a black male were found off State Road 46, west of Interstate 95, in Mims. The victim was later identified as William Agee, age 36, of Melbourne.

(no photo availalbe) On May 5, 1974, the victim was found lying unconscious next to the roadway at US1 and Shell Pit Road. The victim was later identified as Thomas Padgett, age 26, of Daytona Beach. He later died from his injuries.

Sandra Dubose On August 5, 1978, the body of Sandra Dubose was found in a ditch in West Cocoa. Days prior, merchants saw her hitchhiking in the area of State Road 520 and State Road 3.

Franklin Shumaker and Patricia Doyle On January 9, 1979, workers became suspicious of a motor home parked all day at an I-95 rest stop near Grant and summoned authorities. The bodies of Franklin Shumaker and Patricia Doyle, both of Deland, were found inside.

(no photo available) On July 2, 1981, a half-buried skeleton was found in a wooded area between the St. Johns River and Interstate 95 off State Road 520, near Canaveral Groves. The University of Floridas anthropology team indicated the victim is a white female, between 45 and 55 years old.

(no photo available) On December 5, 1981, a caretaker discovered the victim, later identified as William Boyle, age 34, of Holopaw, at a southbound I95 rest stop near Palm Bay. A pick-up truck registered to his father was found a short distance away.

(no photo available) On December 18, 1982, a concerned neighbor found Thelma Rhames body on the living room floor of her condominium on Garfield Avenue in Cape Canaveral. The 66-year-old victim was partially disabled.

Gregory Roberts On October 29, 1983, the body of Gregory Roberts was found lying next to his parked car at a construction site at Ridgewood Avenue and Ocean Woods Boulevard, Cape Canaveral. The victim was last seen in a local bar.

Rita Cozza On June 26, 1983, the body of 55-year-old Rita Cozza was found lying on a couch inside her home on Fell Road, West Melbourne. She was found by a man renting a room in her home.

Unsolved Homicide of Nancy Kay Brown

Nancy Kay Brown On March 8, 1984, skeletal remains were found near a lake off Cangro Street in Canaveral Groves. The victim was later identified through dental records as Nancy Kay Brown, age 25, of Rantoul, Illinois. Brown had been missing from Cocoa Beach since June 6, 1983.

Unsolved Homicide of Cheryl Ann Windsor

Cheryl Ann Windsor On May 1, 1984, boaters found the body of a female floating in a creek north of the Barge Canal on Merritt Island. She was later identified as 16-year-old Cheryl Ann Windsor of Orlando, who had been reported missing by her mother on April 7, 1984.

Unsolved Homicide of Kim Walker

Kim Walker On January 30, 1985, a human bone was found one mile south of Malabar Road, between US1 and the railroad track. A search of the area revealed additional remains of the victim, later identified as missing person Kim Walker, as well as remains of another still unidentified female victim.

Unsolved Homicide of Lynn Desantis

Lynn Desantis On November 26, 1985, county workers reported a body in a ditch alongside Grant Road. The body was facedown in two to three feet of water. The victim was later identified as 40-year-old Lynn Desantis who was residing at the Colonial Motel in Melbourne.

Unsolved Homicide

Unidentified white female On December 16, 1985, the skeletal remains of an unidentified white female were discovered in a densely wooded area near Melbourne. She is estimated to be between 30 and 40 years old and approximately 56 tall.

(no photo available) On December 29, 1986, John Hamilton, a supervisor for several area Mr. Grocer stores was accosted and murdered in the parking lot of the store at 5000 State Road 520, West Cocoa, as he was taking a bank deposit to his car. The suspect fled the store in the victims car.

Julie Ann Backstrom, date of birth May 29, 1957, attended a party in the West Melbourne area of Brevard County on the evening of February 10, 1987. She was last seen alive as she left the party in her car to return home to her residence in Cocoa, Florida. Her body was discovered on the following morning, February 11, 1987, partially submerged in a drainage canal on the south side of State Road 528. The victim, at the time of her death, was employed as a private duty nurse in Brevard County.

The body of the victim was discovered lying face down, with the head and upper torso submerged in the canal with the legs and abdomen resting on the canal bank. This area is located on the south side of the eastbound lanes of SR 528, otherwise known as the Beeline Expressway, approximately 1000 yards east of Interstate 95. Evidence located at the scene suggests that the body was dragged from the shoulder of the roadway to the canal. The autopsy determined that the victim died from a gunshot wound.

The victim's vehicle, a 1982 Plymouth Champ, blue in color, bearing Florida license plate AGZ18Y, was found parked in a business parking lot in Mims, Florida on February 13, 1987. A search of the vehicle found blood on both the driver's and passenger's seats.

Natalie Bradbury On September 3, 1987, a jogger running along the 3600 block of James Road, West Cocoa, found the body of a nude woman in a ditch. The victim was later identified as Natalie Bradbury.

Unsolved Homicide of Ramona Lee Moore

Ramona Moore On July 14, 1988, construction workers paving a northern extension of Washington Drive, west of Melbourne, discovered the nude body of a woman later identified as Ramona Lee Moore, age 22, of Melbourne. Her body was found in a rain-filled hole.

Pauline Scandale Pauline Scandale, an 82-year-old widow, was found by her son after she failed to answer the phone at her Canova Beach home. There was evidence of forced entry to the home.

Unsolved Homicide of Wanda Reapp

(no photo available) On August 26, 1988, a 52-year-old Cocoa housewife, Wanda Reapp, was reported kidnapped from Mister Donut, Cocoa. She was sexually assaulted and murdered in a remote area of Canaveral Groves. Her husband reported the suspect to be an unknown black male.

Unsolved Homicide of Susan Krause

Susan Krauss was discovered murdered in her apartment on Wednesday, December 28, 1988, at 8:40 a.m. Krauss was last seen the previous evening shopping alone at the Albertson's grocery store in Indian Harbor Beach, Florida. Krauss lived by herself in apartment 348A of The Hamptons Apartments located at 3040 South Highway A1A, Melbourne Beach, Florida. The victim at the time of her death was 54 years of age and extremely involved in community activities.

The body of the victim was discovered inside the apartment. The victim's apartment was located in south Melbourne Beach, which at the time of the murder, was not heavily populated. The investigation into the murder has revealed that an unidentified person entered or was invited into the residence, after which they killed Mrs. Krauss. It was determined that the victim died as the result of having been shot.

Unsolved Homicide of Thaddeus Houston

Thaddeus Houston On March 12, 1990, at approximately 8:24 a.m., gun shots were reported to have been heard coming from Bay 38, 1520 West Peachtree Street, Cocoa, Florida. Upon investigation, the body of Thaddeus Houston, 34 years of age, was found lying on the floor of his scrap metal business, dead.

According to witnesses, one shot was heard, followed by a slight pause, followed by a rapid succession of additional gun shots. Two white males were observed at the rear of a vehicle described as possibly being a 1978 Dodge Dart or Dodge Monaco, possibly four door, rusty gold in color, with the trunk open, backed into the entrance of the business. After the shots, the suspects were seen loading an unknown object into the trunk of the vehicle.

Following are the descriptions of the possible suspects who were observed by the witnesses: The driver is described as being between 20-40 years of age, wearing a light blue faded ball cap, full brownish-red beard, approximately one inch and ahalf long from the chin, red and white plaid unbuttoned shirt with a light colored t-shirt underneath, faded jeans and dirty work boots.

The passenger is only described as being 20-40 years of age with long shoulder length, blondish colored hair.

The suspects were last seen cutting through the parking lot of the warehouses heading eastbound on Peachtree Street.

Christine Cecelic On March 11, 1990, the body of Christine Cecelic, age 31, of Cocoa was found floating in a canal along Interstate 95, just miles from the Indian River County line.

Unsolved Homicide of Brenda Joyce Fletcher

The victim in this unsolved homicide was listed as a missing person suffering from a mental disorder when her body was discovered. The victim was identified as Brenda Joyce Fletcher with alias names of Carol Brenda Hampton and Brenda Carol Henderson. The victim's last contact with a family member was on October 22, 1990, when she telephoned Missouri from the Washington D.C. area. The victim was known to have liked truckers and has traveled throughout the United States and Canada in this manner. Fletcher was born on October 25, 1940, and was described as 5'07" tall, weighing 165 pounds.

The victim was discovered on Tuesday, April 2, 1991, in a water filled drainage ditch, along the northbound on-ramp from State Road 520 to Interstate 95, Cocoa, Florida. Based on the condition of the victim's body when recovered, it appears that she had been in the ditch for a period of several weeks to months prior to her discovery.

Unsolved Homicide

Unidentified Female On December 24, 1992, jet skiers found the remains of a white female in the Indian River Lagoon near Grant. The post-menopausal female is believed to have died between December 22nd and 24th, 1992. She has never been identified.

Unsolved Homicide of Michael Capponi

The Suspect
Michael Capponi On July 9, 1993 at approximately 11:55 p.m., the victim was shot while in the bathroom at the Starvin marvin's convenience store, located at 4455 West King Street, Cocoa, Florida. The victim died from his injuries three days later. Witnesses observed at least two black males running from the scene after the shots were heard.

The black male shown in the composite was seen leaving the bathroom in the company of another black male after the shooting occurred. He is described as eighteen years of age at the time of the incident, 6'0 tall, 130-140 pounds, wearing a dark colored tank top and red knee length shorts. The second male was shorter and heavy set. Both were last seen on foot eastbound from the store.

Unsolved Homicide of Charlotte "Amy" Gellert

On the evening of Sunday, March 20, 1994, Charlotte "Bunny" Lehton and her husband, Robert, returned home from church to their residence located on South Orlando Avenue, Cocoa Beach, Florida where they were met inside the residence by a masked intruder. The intruder was armed with a knife and a semi-automatic handgun. While in the residence, the intruder took money and credit cards belonging to the Lehton's.

During his stay in the residence, the intruder advised that he was waiting for an accomplice. The intruder became more agitated as time went by and the accomplice did not show up. After approximately 30 minutes, the victim, Charlotte "Amy" Gellert, the daughter of Mrs. Lehton, pulled her car into the driveway where her headlights could be seen from the living room. The intruder then attacked the Lehton's with a knife, severely wounding them.

As "Amy" exited her car, she was attacked by the intruder, who had run from the residence. "Amy" sustained multiple stab wounds, which caused her death. The intruder then fled the area by running south on South Orlando Avenue, Cocoa Beach, Florida. The intruder was described as a white male, early twenties, 5'07" - 5'10" tall, weighing between 165 to 185 pounds, wearing dark clothing, gloves, and a black ski mask.

The handgun, which was not recovered, was later determined through investigation to be a blue in color, blank firing stage prop, which is a replica of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol. The Homicide Unit is looking for any information on persons who may have owned or possessed such a weapon or may have had a similar weapon stolen in a burglary.

Trena Pauley On December 19, 1994, the body of Trena Pauley was found in a Mims orange grove by two students whose vehicle became stuck in the sand nearby.

Unsolved Homicide of Eric Nicoletti

On September 27, 2000 at approximately 4:45 am the manager of the Sunshine Food Mart, identified by the "BP" gasoline/fuel sign at 4580 Grissom Parkway, Cocoa, Florida, found the body of a young man in the store's parking lot.

Brevard County Sheriff's deputies responded to the "911" telephone call made by the manager and found the young man laying next to his car, a white 1987 Nissan Sentra two-door. Homicide Agents identified the victim as twenty-two year old Eric Nicoletti, an area resident.

The investigation revealed that Eric Nicoletti was murdered at the "BP" station between the hours of midnight at 4:30 am that morning. It appeared that Nicoletti drove to the location and met with person(s) that he was acquainted with. It also appeared that Nicoletti was standing outside his car when he was murdered.

The investigation revealed that during the late evening hours of September 26, 2000, Eric Nicoletti was with friends in the Port St. John and Titusville areas of Brevard County. Nicoletti is known to frequent areas of Brevard County associated with high crime and drug activity.

Hein Van Tran On October 29, 2003, the skeletal remains of a Vietnamese male, Hein Van Tran, were found scattered along Pluckebaum Road in West Cocoa.

Death of Unidentified Male

Unidentified Male
(no photo available - a facial reconstruction of this individual is in progress and will be available soon) On October 6, 2005, skeletal remains of an unidentified male were found by an individual riding an ATV in a wooded area of Port St. John. No identification has been made on the decedent. The Homicide Unit continues to work this case as a homicide, although the post-mortem examination did not determine a cause of death.

Unsolved Homicide of Mark Stewart

Mark Anthony Stewart On May 19, 2006, at approximately 7:00 a.m., the body of 22-year-old Mark Anthony Stewart was found lying by the roadway on Old Dixie Highway in Titusville.
